About 150 islands are scattered about the Bay of Islands, 250 kilometres north of Auckland. The first European settlements in New Zealand were established here in the early 19th Century, and the sense of the country’s early history is vivid, with many buildings in the towns of Kerikeri, Kawakawa, Paihia, and Russell dating from that time. Visitors are well catered for with a variety of launch and ferry services, as well as coach services to the more isolated countryside and glorious coastal scenery to the north and west.

Full Day - Cape Reinga Wanderer via Ninety Mile Beach
Highlights include the drive along mighty Ninety Mile Beach including negotiation of the Te Paki quicksand stream. At Cape Reinga wander out to the Lighthouse for spectacular views and hear the story of this deeply spiritual place. Numerous stops are made throughout the day including a 20 minute easy boardwalk through the mighty Kauri trees and native bush at Puketi Kauri Forest. Optional BBQ lunch, including first drink.

Half Day - Cape Brett ‘Hole in the Rock’ Cruise

The most popular of all cruises. Enjoy an informative commentary as the high speed catamaran whisks you through the game fishing waters to the Cape Brett Lighthouse then on to Motukokako Islands and the famous ‘Hole in the Rock’ where your captain will expertly steer the boat through the gap. At Urupukapuka Island there is time to buy lunch, enjoy a scenic walk or take a swim. The return journey meanders through the inner islands.
Note: It is possible to do your island stopover and return on a later vessel, making your half day cruise into a full day experience, at no extra cost. (Departing Otehei Bay at 3.30pm & 4.50pm)
